Our current committee is made up of the following parent volunteers:

Having my daughter attend the preschool, I really value the opportunity to both support and shape what the children get involved in and how the preschool operates. As a trustee you get to discuss and make decisions collectively on a really wide variety of topics. It helps to open your eyes to everything that goes on behind the scenes and you develop a real appreciation for all the things that make this place work effectively. Even when my daughter leaves I will continue to be a trustee as it’s a lovely community of people and gives me a chance to give back a little after all they’ve done for my daughters.

I really value being a trustee because it gives me the opportunity to make a real difference, support our community and help ensure that our preschool continues to thrive. As the preschool manager, I understand how important it is to provide children with a safe, happy and nurturing environment where they can learn, grow and reach their full potential. Being a trustee allows me to share my experience, contribute to important decisions and help keep everything running smoothly. Most of all, I feel proud knowing that I am helping to secure the future of our preschool so that children and families can continue to benefit from the wonderful opportunities it provides.

Since joining the Preschool Board of Trustees, I have gained so much confidence and made many lovely friends.

I joined the board after taking several years out of work to be at home with my children, taking on this role gave me the opportunity to bridge a gap in my CV and learn new skills. The role is so rewarding and it feels great to give back to the local community. I have learnt so much about the day to day running of a childcare setting, from how staff ensure they are following the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, Ofsted rules and regulations, how government funding works to ordering new resources and helping with display boards. I’ve been involved in organising the children’s end of year trips as well as joining other parents with the organising of fundraising events.

The role offers so much variety and we all support each other with any decisions we make as Trustees.

It has been an honour and pleasure to work with the Preschool, the staff do such an amazing job and in return our children are given an amazing start to their learning.

I highly recommend it!!!

I completely understand the hesitation about joining the preschool committee, as it sounds like it could be a big commitment. In reality, it isn’t as it is just a couple of hours every couple of months.

By becoming a trustee at Houghton & Wyton Pre-school, you become part of a small group of parents and staff, who help keep the setting running. You don’t need prior experience in education or governance, just a willingness to contribute your perspective and a bit of time every couple of months. Tasks can include reading through policies and making decisions about the day to day running of the preschools.

Most importantly, it gives you a much better understanding of how the pre-school works, and you’re directly helping shape the environment your child (and others) are part of.

The preschool holds a very special place in my heart, and being a trustee gives me the opportunity to support something that makes a real difference to local families. Having previously worked behind the scenes at the preschool, I’ve seen first-hand the care, dedication and hard work that goes into creating its welcoming and nurturing environment for the children.

I love being able to use my experience to support our incredible staff, help make decisions and contribute to the preschool’s future. I feel privileged to be a part of something so special and to know that I’m helping make a difference to the children, families and community we serve.
